    If you can only see one castle in Scotland then you have to see Edinburgh Castle. This Scotland Castle dominates Edinburgh’s skyline, so you simply can’t miss it. If you visit during the right time of year than you can enjoy a fun and educational festival complete with a military tattoo.

    Located in Edinburgh on the volcanic outcropping called Castle Rock.

    The spot where Edinburgh Castle sits has been inhabited since the 9th century BC. The oldest Castle that was built here dates back to the 12th century and has been a royal residence ever since. This Scotland Castle site has a long history full of kings, sieges, destruction, and rebuilds that were grander than the last.

    Today Edinburgh Castle is in the care of Historic Scotland and in the 2nd most visited attraction in Scotland. You can tour the many historic buildings that make up Edinburgh Castle. St Margaret’s Chapel is the oldest building and survived at least one siege in which the other buildings were destroyed.
